If you have been in the wedding scene even a bit - you have probably noticed that weddings don’t “look” like weddings anymore? It isn’t at a church, the officiant is usually modern, the vendors unique and quirky. So what is a Modern Micro Wedding? And most importantly, should you consider one?
WHAT IS A MODERN MICRO WEDDING?
A Modern Micro Wedding is one that forgoes some, most, or all traditional wedding conventions and prioritizes quality over quantity.
THREE COMMONALITIES AMONGST THE MODERN MICRO WEDDING:
Okay - let’s break that definition down a bit! With 3 commonalities amongst the Modern Micro Weddings.
1 - FEWER GUESTS
You no longer have to reserve tables for your coworkers you barely talk to, your parent’s friends and colleagues, or your distant relatives. Modern Micro Weddings give the couple the control over who gets to be invited, slashing the wedding guest list from hundreds (dare we say even approaching or exceeding 1,000 wedding guests) and tidying it up to 20-50 wedding guests. The Modern Micro Weddings ask the question much like Marie Kondo goes through a room, “does this person spark joy?”
2 - PRIORITIZING THE COUPLES PREFERENCES
The Modern Micro Wedding brings only your closest friends and families together - so ideally these people love and respect you as individuals and a couple! This really frees you up to be yourselves! I have been absolutely tickled seeing things like “flower aunties” (our aunties waltzing down the aisle instead of flower girls), modern wedding officiants who aren’t just plugging and playing the same script (at Oahu Officiant I WOULD NEVER!), and including yard games like cornhole or connect four. The Modern Micro Wedding allows the couple the traditions of the white dress, the ‘I do’s,” and the reception with all that goes along with that - but in a more intimate and meaningful way.
3 - QUALITY TIME
Time is the commodity you can never get back. You can’t make your time on the dance floor longer, you can’t go back and savor the delicious food you carefully considered at tastings, and you can’t go back and spend more time with your loved ones during the day. With a modern day large wedding - you will snub guests - because you simply don’t have the time. You can’t say go to each table and say hello with anymore than a “get up and take this picture” - and move on. You don’t get to really listen to what your guests are wishing you well - because you know that this venue is closing down at 10 PM and there is still an itinerary to adhere to. The Modern Micro Wedding allows you to spend QUALITY time with your guests.
SHOULD YOU CONSIDER A MODERN MICRO WEDDING?
If the above sounds good to you, or like a load of stress off your back - you may want to consider having a Modern Micro Wedding. The initial shock of culling through the wedding guest list will sting - but the quality of your ceremony will be well worth pissing off your Fiances' 3rd cousin twice removed.
